"Making the decision to have a child -it is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body." Elizabeth Stone
Barbara Verneus has been an active participant in the social services field since 1999 and began doula work in 2003 helping other women bring about precious life into the world.
She has volunteered overseas in Senegal, West Africa for the African Birth Collective and also in Brooklyn, NY at Dyekora Sumda Midwifery Services as a midwife assistant to midwives. She has also been employed as a Live-Advisor at Pathways PA to teenage mothers.
Barbara desires to serve families in the urban community; and overseas, such as Haiti in the near future.
Barbara has completed her Master's in Counseling with a concentration in Marriage and Family, particularly seeking to counsel women who have experienced trauma. Grieved by the abuse of women and children and the lack of value of the urban family; she seeks to help reemphasize the importance of the family unit because all parties are vital to the development of the urban community and family. She has always worked with women through the amazing process of witnessing another woman walk in her own power-emotionally, mentally, physically and/or spiritually. Barbara has served women in various settings from the public health initiative based out of Boston University to a local women's group.
Each experience she had in serving women and children has reinforced her passion and calling. She believes the most impactful moment of a person's life is at the moment of conscious conception and that as doulas, we have the opportunity to assist in helping a woman/mother know her virtue, resources and choices for herself and her baby.
Barbara offers affordable doula care in her community to those facing financial hardship but still desire her services. She also offers her services for free to teenage mothers.
Barbara Verneus moved to Austin, Texas to complete the next phase of her vocation which is becoming Certified Professional Midwife towards her dream of serving her community as a counseling midwife. She is currently enrolled in Mercy In Action Distance program and has started her apprenticeship the amazing MotherBloom Midwifery and Holistic Services midwives in the Austin, TX.
